April 17, Memorial Day at Wat Irap in Long Beach, California

Though they live far from their native country that they have left sometime very long ago, some Khmer abroad continue every year to mourn and remember the day that the Khmer Rouge guerilla took over Phnom Penh in April 17, 1975.
At the very time where some last still alive former Khmer Rouge responsibles are judged in Phnom Penh, on Friday 17, April 2009, Cambodian people from Long Beach gathered at Wat Irap for a memorial day of prayers, testimonies, healing poetry and candle light vigil, organized by the organization “Killing Fields Memorial Center”.
